The Central Spartans traveled to Palm Desert to take on the Aztecs of Palm Desert High School on Friday night. The Aztecs, just coming off a loss after traveling to play the Dixie Flyers in St. George, Utah, successfully rebounded themselves, defeating a strong Central Union Spartan football team, 54-14.
While the game was close at first with the Aztecs and Spartans trading touchdown drives, the game seemed to slip away from the Spartans’ hands as the Aztecs managed to widen their lead, scoring touchdown after touchdown, eventually leading to the 54-14 final score.
Even with the large deficit, the Central Spartans managed to make quite a few highlight plays, most notably junior Skylar Cook’s impressive deflection as the Palm Desert quarterback threw a deep ball, looking to connect to his receiver near the endzone.
On the other side, the Palm Desert Aztecs had a stellar night of play. Senior running back Hanyi Joh was the do-it-all playmaker on the offensive side of the ball for the Aztecs, playing a key part in their victory.
