The Fallbrook Warriors took the over 2-hour long trek to Brawley to go to battle with the Wildcats on Friday night at Warne Field. A game that was tied 14-14 at the end of regulation, ended up going in favor of Brawley 20-14 after a missed field goal by Fallbrook on the opening drive of overtime play.
For the Warriors, sophomore half-back Marquise Washington opened up scoring in the game, taking a handoff 44-yards down the field for a touchdown, and was one of the Warriors’ primary rushers Friday night. Senior quarterback Josh McBroom made effective throws all night long and also called his own number, taking it 12-yards for the touchdown to even up the game at 14.
For the Wildcats, junior quarterback Ethan Gutierrez (10-16 on 64 yards passing, eight carries for 52 yards) accounted for Brawley’s first score of the game, a 36-yard rushing touchdown, tying the game at 7. Junior fullback Tanner Carranza was Brawley’s leading rusher (102 yards), and had a 42-yard rushing touchdown making the score 14-7 in favor of the Wildcats. Senior running back Isaiah Young had the Wildcats’ game-winning touchdown in overtime, taking the ball in from 5-yards out.
With their second loss within one-score in a row, Fallbrook falls to 2-4 on the season. The Warriors will have a bye this week, but will resume play on October 8, with their second Valley league matchup of the season against the Valley Center Jaguars.
With the victory, and their 4th-straight win, Brawley improves to 4-2 on the season. The Wildcats will open up Imperial Valley league play this Friday when they take the short ride to El Centro to take on the Southwest Eagles.
