SAN DIEGO – It’s always a tough challenge to start the season away from home, but if you are the Vincent Memorial Scots, you’ll feel right at home no matter where the game is played.
The Scots will begin their 2021 campaign on the road as they will face the San Diego Cavers. It will be the first of seven road contests for the Scots, who themselves do not have a home field to call their home. The play their home games at either Ward Field in Calexico, Cal Jones Field in El Centro or Eagle Field at Southwest High School.
The Scots will look to rebound following their mediocre showing during the spring season, going 3-3. They looked to be the front-runner to make a CIF championship run before COVID-19 derailed their 2020 season. The Scots compiled a 10-2 record in 2019, falling to Francis Parker 34-22 in the playoff semifinals.
The Cavers will look to rebound themselves as they were only able to play three games during the spring and finished with a record of 1-2.
The Cavers do have some familiarity with Imperial Valley squads, defeating the Holtville Vikings 49-0 in 2017 and facing the Central Spartans in two of their last three postseason appearances.
Kickoff for this game will be 6:30 p.m. at Balboa Stadium in San Diego Friday night.
